You don’t necessarily have to select a boldly patterned curtain in order to make a bold statement with your curtains. Instead you might simply rely on an unexpected color or even a curtain style that is not what might be considered mainstream to set them apart from the everyday.

There are many different types of curtains styles available that will take you beyond the usual curtain tracks and into something that will catch the eye simply for the way it hangs. Such a style of curtain might be eyelet curtains that are hung on a curtain rail thanks to eyelet holes punched into the curtain fabric itself.

This kind of curtain hangs differently to other curtain styles with straight, uniform pleats instead of gathered pleats. With some careful planning and some arranging of furniture it might be possible to use your eyelet curtains as a backdrop to other furniture pieces that you would like to show off. The vertical lines of the curtains might show off the design of your sofa or even the lamp shade of your favorite retro floor lamp.

Whatever way you wish to use your curtains, just make sure you don’t forget that they are a vital part in setting the tone of the room. The thickness of the material with which the curtains are made will determine the amount of light that is let in and this same thickness will change the heaviness with which they drape.

A darker set of curtains will create a more somber tone than a lighter, airier curtain which may be an important part of the way in which you want your room to appear.

Curtain patterns play a role in the tone of your room too, but they really only make a big impact if you get it completely wrong. When a garish pattern is chosen your curtains are going to stand out and detract from the rest of the room. A well chosen set of curtains are going to blend in with the rest of the room to complement the rest of the décor.
