What Options are Available to Cyclists When They Buy a Jersey?

When I go out cycling on my road bike I don’t want to be just another cyclist. The main point of cycling might be to get fitter, lose weight, or whatever, but I want to look good too. There are a load of really bright and colorful bike frames available now, and jerseys have finally caught up.

You might be thinking that all that are available are the kinds of jersey that you see on the Tour de France. HTC, or perhaps Team Sky, and that puts you off a bit. Personally I am not too bothered, but I can see the point of not really wanting to be a walking billboard! Of course, if you cycle with your own club it might be that you have been able to buy from them the club’s colors. Giordana provide a great service where you provide the artwork and they make it up into a men’s cycling jersey.

The cheapest available jerseys are made of 100% polyester, and it is a combination of the material and how it is woven that wicks away the sweat that you make pumping up the hills. Of course, that means that you have to have it in contact with your skin – its not that having tight clothing makes you less wind resistant, its so that the capillary action of the cloth will get the sweat to the outside of the garment away from your skin and then it evaporates.

Back to the style icon thing. The colors that are now available are brilliant, from old school coffee tin adverts (seriously!) to, well, my favorite really. The Cat in the Hat. That Doctor Seuss favorite.

And this blue, red and white jersey is definitely making it to my wish list! The only thing that I need now is the matching bib shorts, the right shoes, and of course, the right color bike.
