E Cigarette Safety Advice

Written by Info Expert on March 4, 2010 | Posted in Quit Smoking

Even though they can be expensive E cigarettes have been increasing in popularity recently. They are seen by many as a completely safe alternative to traditional cigarettes, but is that really the case? Are there any negative health effects of using electronic cigarettes? In this article we’ll be finding out about electronic cigarette safety and whether they really deserve their reputation as a safe alternative to traditional cigarettes.

At the end of last year the World Health Organization came out with a statement saying that they know of no scientific evidence that said that electronic cigarettes are a safe alternative to regular cigarettes. They also said that there was no evidence that they helped smokers to quit their habit completely as some manufacturers have been claiming. While the absence of proof does not make electronic cigarettes dangerous, it does mean that all the companies claiming that they are safe have not done their research correctly.

Many people would argue that even if electronic cigarettes are not proven to be 100% safe they must be healthier than regular cigarettes which are known to be bad for your health. However, assuming this is dangerous as there are reasons why they may be harmful. Electronic cigarette safety is something that has been implied by the people manufacturing them but has not been proven.

The main reason the WHO came out and said that they weren’t sure about electronic cigarettes is because of the e-liquid. This contains a number of different chemicals which could be poisonous and hence dangerous. Just how dangerous these chemicals are is not yet known and research is ongoing into the effects that they may have on the body. This will eventually help decide whether electronic cigarettes are actually a good alternative to smoking regular tobacco based cigarettes.

If you see any website selling electronic cigarettes claiming that the WHO have endorsed their product then you should be very sceptical. Some companies have been using the WHO logo as a way to provide authenticity to their claims even though there has been nothing form the organisation suggesting that they believe electric cigarettes are safe. If you see any website claiming to be endorsed by the WHO for e cigs then you should contact the organisation and ask them whether they actually have or whether the company is displaying their logo without their permission. Electronic cigarette safety is an ongoing debate and one that is not decided yet.

While I agree in part that the electronic cigarette is a safer alternative to smoking or use of any tobacco product.

The problem with the e-cig is that it is a nicotine delivery device. Nicotine is neither safe or works as a cessation device. Many people fail miserably using all types of cessation devices. If you want to quit please consult your physician if you want to cut back or smoke in social areas then the e-cigarette works fine.
