With plastic surgery being more popular today than ever before, procedures such as face lifts are now considered as commonplace. Whether this is a positive or negative thing if you are one of the many people who are thinking of going through with such a procedure, there happens to be a few important details you should be aware of first.

Obviously one of the benefits of a face lift or rhytidectomy is that you end up looking years younger. With a face lift, the skin is literally cut and pulled up around the cheeks, eyes and brows. Of course as with any other procedure there are potential risks. There could be swelling or permanent scarring. It may not turn out the way you wanted it to. Especially if you did not take the time to choose an experienced and qualified surgeon, the surgery could end up marring your face forever.

There could also be other serious risks that can come after the rhytidectomy surgery. It can cause serious nerve damage and intense pain. Some people even feel pain years after the procedure was completed. Of course the actual cost of the procedure is a whole other issue. Typically priced around the $5,000 mark this is no loose change.

Your plastic surgeon should sit and discuss such information with you before any serious decisions are made regarding surgery. It is their responsibility to make you aware of both the possible risks and benefits of this or any other cosmetic surgery procedure for that matter.  While there are definitely risks to any type of surgical procedure, there have definitely been some great developments in this type of procedure so there is a lot less risk than there even was a few years ago.
