Having to contend with roof leakage can be a costly exercise to say the least. Not only that, you stand to pay for damage done by rainwater to your basement as well. That is why having a proper guttering system installed on your roof, will be the best investment you made this year.

The three principle aspects to gutters on a roof namely; roof integral trough that can be installed on the lower edge of the roof made from the same roof covering which is currently in use, or the discrete integral trough made from different materials such as PVC or metal, but is suspended on the edge of the roof. Then there is the wall integral system which can be put beneath the edge of the roof.

Many people don’t know how important it is to have good guttering attached to your roof. This system will prevent rainwater from seeping through broken roof tiles onto your ceilings, or can cause untold damage to the base of your home or building. And an added bonus is that you can collect this water into containers which can be used at a later stage.

The materials used to make the pipes and troughs vary from PVC, metal, concrete, wood or even galvanized steel. It depends on the look of your home or building which will determine which type of material you will choose.

It is quite simple in it’s design and is made up of troughs near the roof and down pipes which channel the water away from the building. The pipes are usually installed on each corner of the structure. Having a cistern or two will come in handy as rainwater can be stored for a long time.

The gutter style also varies and you can get a cold forming unit which is made on site and cut into seamless lengths to match the length of your roof. Joints are minimal and erosion is kept at bay.

Concealed within the roof, you will find the box gutter which does the same work but which is not that obvious on the building. Gutters are equipped with hoods and filters so that they keep most of the big debris like sticks and leaves which gather from time to time as rainwater falls on the roof.

There is no doubt about it, a good guttering system will help prevent basement damage, pain damage or roof damage. This is what our goal is after all.
