Mold is an unattractive nuisance that grows in many bathrooms. Not only does it look bad, but it can also cause health problems. How to kill bathroom mold is a question many homeowners ask every day. They run out to buy cleaning chemicals that might be harmful to them, their families and the environment. A better solution is to try homemade products first before turning to store brought products for mold removal.

Before you begin, there are some products you need. You probably already have some of them in your home. Purchase a pair of rubber gloves, any type will do. You will also need a spray bottle, soap and water, distilled vinegar or tea tree oil, and a stiff brush.

The gloves are to protect your hands during the cleaning process. Vinegar is natural, and is non-toxic and safe to use. However, there’s a chance it might irritate your skin after prolonged exposure. Acid naturally occurs in vinegar, and can irritate your skin.

You also need the gloves to protect your hands from the mold. The spray bottle will hold the cleaning solution you create. You will be able to thoroughly drench the moldy spots. The brush is to clean the spots after you’ve applied the cleaning solution.

Try to first clean the area using soap and water. Sometimes soap and water is all you need to clean the mold spots away. Use the stiff brush to scrub the moldy areas. This should remove some, if not all of the growth. If this isn’t enough, then proceed to use the vinegar

Pour some vinegar into the spray bottle. You can use the vinegar alone or mix it with water. Some people dislike the smell of vinegar. Mixing it with water is one way to reduce the smell.

If you’re cleaning a small area, using the vinegar alone shouldn’t produce an overwhelming smell. If you’re cleaning a large area, the scent might become overwhelming. It’s really just a matter of preference.

Saturate the remaining mold with the mixture. Let the mixture stand for five minutes and then scrub the area. It should remove any growth that remains after the first cleaning. Dry the area and repeat the cleaning process if any spots remain.

Tea tree oil is an alternative to vinegar. The scent is very strong, but it normally goes away in a day or two. It really depends on how much you use. Just like with vinegar, the more tea tree oil you use the louder is smells.

Mix two teaspoons of tea tree oil with two cups of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle, shake it well and then spray it on the spots. Scrub the area with a hard brush until the spots are gone.

If these natural remedies don’t work, then you can try a store brought product. You can also learn more about how to kill bathroom mold by reading books and websites. Moldy spots in the bathroom are a common problem, so removing them shouldn’t be that difficult.
