Reusable vs Disposable Swimming Nappies

In the summertime, a good way to bond with the whole family is to do things together. Among the most fun things to do during this time of the year is swimming at the beach or going to a water theme park. And if you have a baby, he or she will be able to join in on the fun, too. Taking babies swimming is a great way of instilling confidence in them. Swimming is also a very fun experience for babies, and a lot of babies are fond of splashing and wading in water with their moms and dads. The only issue with babies swimming in public pools is that babies have no bladder or bowel control, and this means that they may “go” anytime, soiling the pool water in the process. This is where swimming nappies enter the picture.

Swimming Pool and Cottages

Nappies for swimming are best for babies 3 years or younger in age. In using them, babies do not run the risk of soiling the pool water when they are taken swimming. Otherwise known as swim costumes, swim nappies are available in different sizes, designs, styles and colors, made for both male and female babies, available as either reusable or disposable. Waterproof nappy bags are also available in different styles, colors, brands and designs, perfect for holding all of your baby’s items when you take your baby swimming. So how exactly do disposable nappies differ from reusable nappies? Which one is better? When it comes to nappies, it depends:

Disposable nappies are made out of materials that are very absorbent, and have sides that tear away. Because of this, it is easy to remove them. The issue with disposable nappies and diapers is mostly their negative impact on the environment. Just as with disposable non-biodegradable items as Styrofoam cups and plastics, using these nappies can mean contributing to environment problems. Of course, there are 100% biodegradable nappies, but these cost more and using a lot of them can cost a good amount of money. For this reason, it only makes sense to use disposable nappies for occasional swimming. If you will be taking your baby swimming maybe once or twice a year, then a disposable nappy is ideal.

Reusable nappies can be worn by both male and female babies, and are made out of materials that are light and comfy. Using them is done by the environment-conscious, and reusable nappies are budget-friendly, since they can be reused. Reusable nappies are ideal for those that have their own swimming pools, or at least those that frequently take their babies swimming. Reusing items is definitely better for Mother Earth, just as one would make use of ceramic plates and mugs, instead of non-biodegradable items like Styrofoam or plastic plates and cups.
